One of the founders of Trevithick Day has won a seat on Camborne Town Council for the Labour Party.

Camborne man Trevor Dalley took 54 per cent of the vote in the by-election on November 13.

Trevor, who was one of the founders of Camborne Trevithick Day and a Cornish Bard, said: "I am honoured by the trust placed in me by local people and look forward to working with all members of the council for a more positive and prosperous future for our town."

The full results were: Labour 298 (54%) Conservative 145 (26%) MK 80 (14%) Green 31 ( 6%) The Liberal Democrats did not put forward a candidate.

Jude Robinson, Chair of the local Labour Party said: "Congratulations to Trevor, he will be a real asset to the town council as we prepare for difficult decisions ahead and face more cuts from the coalition government.

"This victory shows how far Labour has come since 2010. We are working hard and winning hearts and minds in our communities. We have a great parliamentary candidate in Michael Foster, a brilliant team of volunteers and vision for the future of this area. We are all looking forward to next May's election.

"The Conservatives were flattened in this by-election and the Lib Dems could not even find someone to fly their colours."
