A woman has died after being found with 'major injuries' in the sea off Godrevy Beach.

A helicopter from 771 NAS was called out from Culdrose on Saturday afternoon, with police and coastguards were also called to the scene.

The woman, reported to be in her 60s and from Camborne, was airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske. She later died.

Portreath Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team and St Ives Coastguard Rescue Team were called out at approximately 5pm after a report of a missing female in the area of Godrevy Head.

In conjunction with the St Ives All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats a search of Godrevy and the cliffs westwards from Hell's Mouth was carried out.

The Devon & Cornwall Police helicopter joined the cliff rescue team and lifeboat crews to illuminate and broaden the search area.

The casualty was found in the water at the foot of the sheer cliffs.

A cliff rescue team spokesman said: "We would like to thank our colleagues from the St Ives CRT,  Devon and Cornwall Police, both the St Ives Lifeboats and of course the crew from 771 Squadron for their help with this long and challenging tasking and also extend our condolences to the casualty's family at this difficult time."
