The Met Office is urging motorists to be careful this morning after it issued a yellow warning for fog in the south west.

Forecasters predicted that visibility could fall to between 50 to 100 metres in some places, leading to difficult driving conditions, but saisd the weather was expected to lift slowly and clear by around 10am.

The chief foreccaster said: "Under clear skies, fog patches are forming and these will become fairly widespread in low lying parts of southwest England as well as across eastern England by morning. Some freezing fog is also likely, leading to frost deposits on untreated surfaces."
