A mix up has been blamed over the suspected theft of an iconic piece of Cornish mining history from The King Edward Mine Museum in Troon.

Police were called after the large ‘Lift Head Wheel’  over 11 metres in diameter and weighing over two tonnes described as irreplaceable and of "high cultural value" due to its important heritage was taken away by three men in high vis jackets driving a flat bed truck with a crane.

Police put out an appeal after the wheel was taken on Wednesday, March 4 between 2pm and 4pm

However it now seems that the item was taken away legitimatly, with police saying that they had received a call from Cornwall Council who said that there had been "some miscommunication" and that the wheel has not been stolen, it had in fact been taken away to be shot blasted.
