A shared passion for music has driven two young people from DCH's Carn Brea Foyer to set up their own recording studio.

Stephen Lloyd and Goron Clemo have always had a passion for making music but struggled to find the money to pay studio fees to record their tracks. Convinced that if they were struggling to pay for recording time, there would be other young artists who were in the same position, they decided to take action.

The support they received from living at the foyer and the advice from their DCH support worker helped them put together a plan for an affordable recording studio. The NewLeaf Recordz studio idea was born.

Stephen and Goron secured funding of £2,600 from Healthy Conversations to pay for the studio equipment and DCH gifted office space to set the studio up in. The pair have big plans for NewLeaf Recordz and want to grow it into an events company that will give young people the chance to perform live, make music videos and undertake full album production.

The first small practice “open mic” event was held at Carn Brea Foyer last month and there will be a bigger one to be held at Chacewater Hall on Friday, May 15.

Stephen and Goron said: “The studio gives people affordable recording time and if it's not good for everyone then it's not good at all.”

Andrew Sealey, DCH support worker said: “The two young people involved in this project have had amazing focus in setting up the studio and the first open mic event went without a hitch. A big thanks to Healthy Conversations for providing the funding and The Foyer Federation for supporting the project.”
