THOUSANDS of people took to the streets of Camborne at the weekend to honour their favourite son Richard Trevithick, although the main attraction failed to make the journey up Camborne Hill.
Up to 8,000 people were estimated to have gathered in Camborne town centre to watch the steam engines on parade and see the full size replica of Richard Trevithick's Puffin' Billy recreate its epic journey from 1801.
However, the replica failed to make it to the event due to undisclosed difficulties, but this didn't dampen the spirits of the thousands who attended.
Organisers said it was the most people who turned out to enjoy the event since it first started in 1984.
