Princess Alexandra has been putting the ‘Royal’ in to this year’s Royal Cornwall Show today, with her sixth visit.

The princess first visited the show in 1960, the first year it was held at the permanent showground at Wadebridge after being an itinerant event since 1793.

The Princess whose interests include animals and horticulture, enjoyed an informal and friendly tour of the show, and with exceptional entries across the competitive livestock and equine classes, and an increased entry in the flower show, there is plenty for Her Royal Highness to see.

The Princess took lunch with the show president, Major Charles Edward-Collins, and invited guests.

Her Royal Highness was recognised for her interest in and support of the show by being made a vice president of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association (RCAA) ahead of her last visit in 2009. She had previously visited in 1981, the last show of the 20th century in 1999 and 2005.

Learning of this year’s Royal visitor RCAA secretary, Chris Riddle, said:

“Her Royal Highness has long been a great supporter of the show and we look forward to offering her a very warm Cornish welcome, yet again, in 2015.”

This year’s show, which runs from the 4 – 6 June, promises to be another feast of farming, entertainment and the finest Cornish food and drink. Well over 100,000 people are expected to attend during the three day event.
