A FORMER cancer patient took on another epic challenge by swimming 64 lengths (1 mile), raising £2,000 for the Macmillan Cove appeal.

Mike Dennis from Redruth was diagnosed with bowel cancer, having his first chemotherapy at Royal Cornwall Hospital two years ago. Due to the support and care Mike received during his time in hospital, he was keen to show his thanks and raise money for the Cove.

As well as receiving donations from friends and family, Mike was also allowed to collect funds in Staples, Redruth.

The swimming challenge took place in Carn Brea Leisure Centre and Mike was delighted to have a number of supporters there, cheering him on. He managed to swim a mile in 57 minutes.

Louise Forshaw, Macmillan Project Development Manager, was delighted with this donation and how this will help to benefit the appeal. “It is astounding that Mike has managed to raise £2000, we are thrilled that he has chosen the Cove” said Louise. “The Cove will make a huge difference to people living with and cancer, we are extremely grateful for this fantastic donation”.
