CAMBORNE has been rebranded. It has a new logo, a town guide, a Facebook page, Twitter account and there will soon be welcome maps displayed in the town centre and a new website.

The logo is described as "powerful through its simplicity." It was chosen by the town’s people to represent what they stand for and celebrates an industrial heritage that changed the world, whilst also being contemporary and reflecting a strong spirited working community.

The town guide honours that rich mining heritage by featuring both the new Camborne town logo and the Cornish Mining Heritage logo. It invites people to "Uncover the Real Camborne," home of the county’s deepest mine and birthplace of Richard Trevithick, the inventor of steam road transport. It shows a town busy with independent shops and businesses surrounded by a rich history of industrial innovation.

Camborne is a Business Improvement District and the rebranding has been championed and led by BID Camborne manager, Mel Martin, and John Lowdon, of Changing Brands.

During 2014 the team gathered information from questionnaires, held public consultations and organised voting opportunities to create not just the logo but also the strapline Real Cornwall. In addition they have launched the #Choose Camborne campaign.

Mel believes negative publicity, most unfounded, has clouded people’s view of the town and is delighted the residents, and particularly the business owners, are fighting back. She feels the rebrand is just a part of that battle.

“During the consultation for the rebrand we discovered what makes Camborne special is what makes Cornwall special - its heritage and the rugged beauty of the surrounding area," said Mel. "But it’s Camborne’s people that truly set it apart. Together we’ve created a brand that captures the spirit of what we’re calling ‘Real Cornwall.’

“Camborne people are proud of their heritage, craftsmanship and local produce. The town centre has much more to offer than people’s perceptions have led them to believe. It’s a hard working community full of passionate, friendly residents and businesses, determined to re-establish a thriving centre they can be proud of. Every day new businesses are opening adding to the variety and improving the quality of what’s already available.”
