Thirty-three volunteers braved the weather recently to clean up two of the gateways to Camborne.

Members of the Green & Clean Group, in partnership with Love Camborne from Elim Church, took part in a community litter pick and weeding morning. The areas covered were Pendarves Street, Tuckingmill, to Roskear and from the Premier Inn, Treswithian, to Camborne Fire Station.

The organisers were delighted with the results of the morning’s hard work. In total 97 bags of weeds were collected, one bag of litter and half a bag of recycling. Secretary of Green & Clean, Jeff Collins, said: “It was incredible to get so many volunteers to brave the weather and it really illustrates their commitment, especially considering the downpour.”

Church minister, David Smyth, agreed. “It was great for us to work with the Camborne Green & Clean team on Sunday in place of our morning meeting," he said. "We think it is great that people take pride in the town of Camborne and are prepared to demonstrate this in a practical way.”

Green & Clean was recently presented with 20 hoes and four brooms by the newly opened B&M store, in Pool. The store’s manager Chris Lethbridge said: “We are proud to support the Green & Clean Camborne and committed to playing our part in the local community. As a new business to the area we hope our contribution to the cause will help keep the streets of Camborne clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy.” Cornwall Councillor Paul White who organises the Green & Clean volunteer non-political group added: “At the moment we have 43 members. As well as doing planned organised events, members focus on a specific area as an ongoing project. You could say it’s like adopting a street, lane, path or park to help keep them clean and tidy on a regular basis. We are a new group and are making a big difference. There has been a big improvement in the cleanliness of our community since the group was formed. It is amazing how much an area can look after just a couple of hour’s effort.”
