Jubilant students have been celebrating at Camborne Science and International Academy having achieved outstanding GCSE results, with 99.52 per cent pass rate and 67 per cent attainment for the all-important five or more A* to C grades including English and Mathematics, first time entry. This supports the academy’s status as one of the top performing state schools in Cornwall for the third year running.

These excellent results were forecast by the academy during their intensive monitoring, intervention and assessment of students, and reflect the hard work and commitment of students and staff.

There were shrieks of joy as students opened their envelopes alongside their peers, teachers and family members. Amid the excitement, principal at CSIA, Ian Kenworthy, spoke of his pride in what this year’s group of year 11 students had achieved.

“The effort and commitment shown by our students, together with expert teaching, guidance and support from our devoted staff and family members, have all played a part in the successes we have seen today," he said. “This is definitely one of the most rewarding days in the school calendar...it was brilliant last week with the A-level results and it is the same feeling again today.”

The school sits significantly above the national average and was particularly overjoyed with the very high number of students who achieved more than five A to A*s. CSIA also celebrated fantastic results in mathematics, English and science, reflective of the school’s specialist status as a centre of excellence in science and mathematics teaching.

Annie Clemo, 16, received 11 GCSEs, including eight A*s and three As. She said: “My hands were shaking when I opened the results but I was really relieved and excited when I saw my grades.” Annie will now stay on at CSIA Sixth Form to study A-Levels in chemistry, biology, mathematics and Spanish.

Another student, Ryan Williams, 16, who achieved 11 A*-A grades will now go on to study for A-levels in mathematics, further mathematics, physics and geography at CSIA. He said: “I’m so happy and pleased, I worked so hard and it has all paid off. I can’t wait to go back to sixth form but I’m making the most of the holiday first.”

Emma Haase, vice principal at CSIA, said: “It is a genuine pleasure to see the reactions of students who are so deserving of these excellent results, not just those who achieve the highest grades, but all those who have exceeded their own expectations. The exceptional GCSE results are testament to our students who truly understand the importance of making the most of every opportunity, working hard and striving towards their dreams.”

The academy looks forward to welcoming the vast majority of its students back to the Sixth Form Centre in September and with such excellent GCSE results, expectations are high.

“GCSE results day represents the culmination of 11 years of hard work for young people,” said Ian. “Our students approach their studies with energy and enthusiasm and witnessing the outcome of their hard work on results day is such a proud moment. As they return to study for places at university and in employment, excellence is what our students will continue to aim for.

“The outstanding grades we have seen today show that our Academy continues to prepare its students for the challenges of A-levels, university and beyond."
