A clean up day aimed at tackling rampant weeds and picking up litter in a Camborne neighbourhood has been hailed as great success, with the organiser calling on Camborne Town Council to take on the service.

Nathan Billing organised the event in the Penforth area after a survey of residents in the area showed local people were fed up of the council not spraying weeds and wanted something done.

He said: "It was pretty clear from my survey that people are fed up with the place looking overgrown and not very tidy. I understand that Cornwall Council are getting squeezed financially and they are increasingly concentrating on the essential services."

The Liberal Democrat activist added: "What I can't fathom is why Camborne Town Council can't step up to the plate and do this. I understand Truro City Council is looking to take on this service there, so why can't Camborne? "There is a whole raft of services like weeding and litter picking that Camborne could and should take on that would make a real difference to the local community. It just takes a little vision."
