Hayle Runners has honoured its club captain Craig Tonkin by awarding him it's volunteer of the year at its annual awards evening.

Craig has been one of the mainstays for the club for the last decade and as well as a number of award winning performances for his athletic achievements he has played a key role in supporting the team through co-ordinating team entries, assisting with the organisation of races, leading training groups and leading on its social media. More recently he has also been assisting with Hayle Junior Athletics Club.

Club Chairman Andy Moore who presented Craig with his award said: "Sports clubs cannot thrive without the efforts of many volunteers and Craig has consistently supported the club with his skills and enthusiasm. We would not have the participation in local races without Craig's encouragement and it is great to see him recognised."

Hayle Runners have their training nights on Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm. On Tuesday the club runs from Hayle Rugby Club behind M+S where runners of all abilities are welcome to join 8-10 differently paced groups led by qualified leaders and coaches. Beginners are particularly welcomed on a Tuesday evening where a walk/ run group is supported by dedicated leaders. On Thursday evenings (from January 7) at 7pm a structured track session is held at Carn Brea Leisure Centre where a programme of training led by the clubs coaches is open to members and non members.
