Camborne Science and International Academy marked the success and talents of it’s A-Level and GCSE students at its annual presentation evening, which saw over 400 guests, students, teachers and parents gather for an evening of celebration.

“The evening was such an enjoyable and memorable occasion where awards were presented for A-Level and GCSE performance in the full range of subjects and for best overall performance,” said Sarah Belshaw, vice principal at CSIA. “We always look forward to this event as it has such a feel-good atmosphere, with students, parents and staff beaming with pride.”

The Richard Bath Trophy for Outstanding Academic Achievement at A-Level was presented to Joe Nurse and the Penventon Shield for the GCSE Student of the Year was presented to Annie Clemo, by David Pascoe, representing the Penventon Hotel.

“To be awarded the Penventon Shield which celebrates best overall GCSE results was a really great moment for me” said Annie. “I was delighted when I found out my grades in August and now feel really honoured to receive the shield.”

There were also awards for the sixth form head boy/head girl and deputies from last year. Jess Mills, Ben Ills-ley, Lauren Collins-Moore and Joseph Hooper were all thanked for their contribution to the success of the sixth form that went "far beyond the expected.”

Sixth form committee members Robyn Bradley and Michael Wong were also thanked for their hard work in representing their fellow students. The Pastoral Award was presented to Jordan Heather and the Enrichment Award presented to Vicky Burlingham for her “dedication to all things outside of the classroom.”

This year, awards were presented by Nicki Burgess, governor; John Weedon, governor; councillor Godolphin, deputy mayor of Camborne; and Mark Fenlon, vice principal at CSIA.

“Molly Clemens, Aaron Thomas and Camborne Town Band entertained the audience with their exceptional musical performances of Castle on a Cloud, Le Belle American and of course, some Christmas medleys,” said Sarah.

In his address, Mark Fenlon, spoke of his pride and privilege at co-leading “such an outstanding school” and congratulated the students on their excellent summer exam results both at A-Level and GCSE.

“We’re incredibly proud of Camborne Science and International Academy being the highest performing state secondary school in Cornwall, with 67 per cent of all year 11 students achieving the gold standard of 5A*-C including English and mathematics at GCSE,” said Mark, “putting us top of Cornwall for the third year running.

“The students commitment and determination to give their absolute best at our school, and the support of their parents and families is truly admirable. It continues to pay dividends.”
