The organisers of a new awards ceremony are on the hunt for outstanding teachers and educators to be given some much deserved recognition.

Organisers at the Cornwall Teacher Awards have announced a raft of categories for the 2016 event, which will be held at Truro Cathedral on April 15.

Among the 12 categories spanning education and training across Cornwall are: School Volunteer of the Year, School Support Worker of the Year, Student Nominated Teacher of the Year, and School Governor of the Year

At next year's event, Lsect, publishers of Schools Week and FE Week will present the award for Headteacher of the Year.

Shane Mann, managing director at Lsect said: “Outstanding teaching and learning in our schools and colleges often goes on under the radar; the Cornwall Teacher Awards is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the extremely valuable work that goes on in classrooms across the county, we’re delighted to be a part of this event.”

Other early sponsors include Truro and Penwith College, and Kernow Education.

Nikki Baron, business development director at Empra Ltd, the awards’ organisers, said: “Early partners and sponsors supporting this event are incredibly important to its success. This is the first awards of its kind in Cornwall and we want as many people as possible to know about it.”

Judges include Toni Pearce ex Cornwall College student and former President of the National Union of Students.
