Six students and staff from Camborne Science and International Academy travelled over 10,000 miles to Melbourne to take part in a revered global science fair.

“This is a major gathering of the world’s leading science schools and each year it’s hosted in a different country,” said Ian Kenworthy, principal at CSIA. “This was the 11th International Student Science Fair and it was fantastic to attend again having hosted the event ourselves in 2013.”

During the fair, students had the opportunity to present their science projects undertaken at CSIA, to a discerning global audience of students and educators. “Our students’ presentations were extremely well received and a great many complementary comments were made," added Mr Kenworthy. "There was a very tough question and answer session at the end but our students stayed focused, professional and their responses were of the highest standard.”

Throughout their trip, students took part in a rich programme of scientific events, activities and lectures including taking part in a poster presentation at the Australian Synchrotron at Monash University and a visit to a local conservation park.

“Our CSIA students were able to work with veterinary surgeons undertaking an autopsy on a deceased wombat which was such a valuable experience for some who are considering careers in veterinary science." said Mr Kenworthy.

Students also enjoyed a huge range of cultural activities and events, including visits into Melbourne city and a three day trip along the Great Ocean Road. "They experienced the amazing coastline and world famous Twelve Apostles, explored the Temperate Rainforest and saw huge eucalyptus trees” said Mr Kenworthy. “During our stay, it was the height of the Australian summer so even though we had a very busy schedule, we made time to take advantage of the beautiful Australian beaches.

“This was a truly memorable visit and we thank our hosts John Monash High School for such a great welcome and science fair. Our students represented our academy fantastically and were full of enthusiasm throughout the visit. We look forward to visiting Singapore this year for the 12th International Student Science Fair.”
