A student from Redruth has been shortlisted in #MyHappyPlace, a national competition designed help people across the UK feel better during the dark days of winter.

Lauren Bennett, 17, from Redruth, entered a photo she took at Porthtowan Beach.

Lauren, who is studying photography at Camborne College, said: "The photo was taken on a cold winter's day back in December, it was quite a breezy day so the waves were quite rough.

"It made for some pretty good shots, however I think this was definitely one of the best. I noticed that the headland was quite misty and I wanted to capture this and the reflections in the sand in my image.

"This is such a happy place for me, because the landscape is spectacular and the waves are usually very choppy so it makes for a great spot for both photographers and surfers!"

To try and help cheer up the nation during the bleak days of January and February, National Accident Helpline created #MyHappyPlace.

The competition asked people all over the UK to share a photo of a place which makes them feel happy when they're ill, injured or simply feeling down.

Beth Powell, Marketing Director at National Accident Helpline, said: "During the bleak, wintry days of January and February, over 600 people from all over the UK sent us a photo of their 'happy place'.

"It just shows that, whether British people are injured, feeling ill or just a bit under the weather, we're able to find inspiration and comfort in the beautiful surroundings we cherish."
