A 300ft deep mine shaft has swallowed the patio of an empty house in Scorrier near Redruth, as shown by newly released drone footage.

The capping over the shaft, which was discovered by investigators exploring the remnants of the areas old mining heritage, opened up following drilling at the surface.

Mark Thomas, who used a drone to explore the hole, wrote: "A massive mineshaft opens up under a garage at a house in Scorrier near Redruth in Cornwall.

"This shaft is truly massive and is approximately 300ft to water and god knows how deep from there."

The hole, which is filled with water at the bottom, will be recapped with concrete, while structural engineers are yet to decide whether the house can be saved.
