Police have confirmed this evening that one man has died after his car plunged over a cliff at Portreath earlier today.
No further details have been released at this stage, although the victim is said to be local.
Although the full circumstances are not yet known, it is understood the car reversed over the edge.
Emergency services were scrambled to Lighthouse Hill just before 3pm today in a bid to save the man.
Coastguards from the area, police, ambulance staff and a rescue helicopter were all involved in the operation.
Fire crews from Tolvaddon and Bodmin also attended, before being stood down when they realised there was nothing they could do to help, a spokesperson said.
Tributes to the deceased man have now started coming in on social media, with witnesses speaking of their shock at seeing the incident unfold, on Facebook and Twitter.
