Vandals struck at Tehidy Country Park near Camborne at the weekend, tying fishing line across bridges leading to areas popular with families which could have seriously injured a child.

Fortunately the line, which had been tied across several bridges on a route leading towards the lake, was discovered by a group of early morning visitors to the park on Sunday. Placed at a height of around 30 centimetres, the material could have potentially caused serious damage to children riding bikes.

CORMAC, which manages the park on behalf of Cornwall Council, is appealing with anyone for information to contact them or the police.

"It is hard to understand why anyone would do something like this and what their aim was other than to cause harm,” said Gavin Henderson, senior countryside officer for CORMAC. “Clearly we hope it is an isolated incident, but if you’re planning a visit to Tehidy, particularly if it’s first thing in the morning and you are with children riding bikes, please be vigilant.

"And if you saw anything suspicious on Saturday night, or think you may know who is responsible, please get in touch with us or the police.”

The weekend also saw several thefts from vehicles parked in the South Drive and North Cliffs car parks. Anyone visiting Tehidy is advised not to leave valuables in their car, or any bags on display that could be mistaken for containing valuables and to also make sure their vehicle is secured.

If you have any information about the fishing wire incident contact CORMAC on 0300 1234 202 or the police on 101.
