Camborne Town Council has announced the expansion of its RestRoom community toilet scheme and has thanked the Tyacks Hotel and Subway Camborne for becoming partners in the scheme to provide more free public facilities in the heart of the town.

This means that there will be seven participating businesses in locations throughout the town centre, four with disabled toilets. Opening hours span from 7am to midnight, Monday to Saturday, and 8am til late on Sundays. There is no need for anyone to feel they must buy something in order to use the facilities as they are free to use for everybody and no purchase is required because the council is paying the businesses for this service.

Mayor, Trevor Chalker said: “I am delighted to welcome both establishments to this very successful scheme, their participation is evidence of their willingness to join the council and existing members of the Community Toilet Scheme in providing a high quality service to the people of Camborne. The scheme is going from strength to strength, long may it continue.”

RestRoom is a partnership arrangement where participating businesses allow the public to use their toilet facilities without charge and in return are paid an annual fee by the town council. The aim is to provide good quality toilet facilities with extensive opening hours in a range of locations. Councillors have been delighted with the response from the business community in Camborne which has enabled toilet facilities for everyone to be provided across the town centre despite Cornwall Council closures of public toilets. In addition to Tyacks and Subway, free public facilities are available at founder members of the scheme Café Soul, Costa Coffee, The White Hart, Trevithick Market and The Vyvyan Arms.

The council has commissioned new signs showing all the locations of the businesses in RestRoom which will be going up in the town very soon. Details about RestRoom and the location of the facilities across Camborne town centre can be found on the Camborne Town Council website camborne-tc.gov.uk, at Rosewarne car park and leaflets are available at various locations around the town. Participating businesses display a RestRoom sign.

Any businesses interested in joining RestRoom should contact the town clerk, Amanda Mugford, on 612406 or email cambornetc@cornwall.gov.uk.
