Camborne Town Council is one of the first councils in Cornwall to be awarded quality status under the new Local Council Award Scheme.
The scheme is delivered by the National Association of Local Councils and is supported by the Local Government Association. It replaced the old Quality Council scheme and is a much more rigorous test.
The achievement recognises that the council achieves good practice in governance, community engagement and council improvement. Moreover, that the council goes above and beyond its legal obligations, leading its communities and continuously seeking opportunities to improve and develop further.
Launceston Town Council is the only other council in Cornwall to have achieved this status. The awards were presented to both councils by Lord Matthew Taylor, Baron Taylor of Goss Moor, at the annual meeting of the Cornwall Association of Local Councils.
The council is now exploring ways in which it can improve even more and progress to the next level. The council is currently at the frontline of the government’s localism agenda and is doing as much as it can to deliver good quality services that are cost effective. It welcomes suggestions on how it can improve the way it serves local residents.
