A Redruth man has been jailed after admitting causing the deaths of a man and woman while driving in St Agnes, Cornwall.

Ryan Morrish, 27, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by careless driving while under the influence of alcohol and one count of perverting the course of justice at Truro Crown Court.

Morrish (pictured) was sentenced on Wednesday, May 18to six years in prison.

Calvin Trevena and Ann Varran, both aged 51 and from Redruth, died following the collision that happened in the early hours of Sunday 2 August 2015.

The couple were walking along the B3277 near Sevenmilestone, between Chiverton Cross roundabout and St Agnes, when they were struck by a white S4 Audi estate driven by Morrish.

Morrish fled the scene on foot after abandoning his badly damaged car in the Blackwater layby.

He was arrested later that day on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Morrish was charged on 1 March 2016 with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice.

A second man, aged 27 and from Hayle, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later released with no further action being taken against him.

Judge Harvey Clarke congratulated officers on the high standard of the investigation.

“Our thoughts remain with their families and friends at this time and we hope the sentencing of Ryan Morrish brings some closure for them.”
