Swimming lessons for mums

More mums in North Kerrier are learning to swim thanks to a partnership between local children's centres, Cornwall Sports Partnership and the Penventon Hotel in Redruth.

Footprints Crèche, working out of Redruth, Trevu and Treloweth children's centres, organised the special six-week course for women who have little confidence in the water or cannot swim.

During the six Friday morning sessions the mums were given the opportunity to gain confidence in the Penventon Hotel pool whilst their children were cared for at one of the children's centre crèches.

A qualified coach was on hand to give support and teaching giving the mums the opportunity to flourish in a safe, luxurious environment.

Local children's centres offer a range of play activities for fun and early learning, various health services, a nursery and crèche and access to training and development for parents and carers.

Children's centres are being developed by Cornwall county council's family services across the county. The aim is that all young children and their families in Cornwall will be able to access children's centre facilities by 2010.

The sessions were advertised in Treloweth, Redruth and Trevu Children's Centres and each cost £2 to include swimming and childcare.
