Bands from Camborne, Lanner and Stithians will compete against 23 other groups at a unique open air festival in Bugle on June 18.

Bands from Cornwall and Devon, as well as Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Wiltshire, Worcestershire, and London, will join in opening the 92nd West of England Bandsmen’s Festival in the traditional way, by marching through the village to the contest field.

Seven bands have entered the Championship section, where they will compete for the Royal Trophy, presented to the festival in 1913 by the then-Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall, the future Edward VIII.

The present Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, is president of the festival, which attracts a large audience each year.

The audience will be able to enjoy a selection of test pieces, chosen not only to test the musicians, but to provide entertainment for those listening, and adjudicator Michael Fowles will have to judge all seven sections, from the youth and training bands, through the fourth, third, second, and first sections to the championships.

There will be an archive exhibition featuring previous festivals, trade stands and the famous tea tent, a full day of entertainment and enjoyment is guaranteed.
