St Agnes RNLI will be holding its annual lifeboat day on Monday, August 8, which for many visitors will be their first chance to see the new D-Class inshore rescue lifeboat XKalibur.

The RNLI volunteer crew will demonstrate their well-trained rescue techniques, and lifesaving procedures. During the day the crew will be joined by other services such as the RNLI beach lifeguards, Newquay Lifeboat, St Ives Lifeboat and the Saint Piran Fisheries Protection Vessel, all exhibiting their important roles in saving lives at sea and around our coastlines.

All eyes will also be on the skies when the HM Coastguard helicopter visits the cove for a special rescue demonstration though some displays may be subject to weather conditions and/or duty calls.

Many other activities will be going on during the day to keep young and old entertained from face painting for all ages, a tombola, sandcastle competition, treasure hunt and the favourite tug o’ war.

There will also be a barbecue and cream teas, as well as the regular refreshments.

Visitors attending by car can make use of a park and ride facility which will be in operation from 10am to 6pm and will be signposted as you enter the village.

The whole event is manned by volunteers who give up their valuable time to raise awareness and funds for the charity.
