A man has been sentenced following the knifepoint robbery of a 70-year-old man in his home in Camborne last October.

Douglas Pellow was convicted of one count of robbery and one count of burglary and jailed for nine years at Truro Crown Court on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old from Camborne was convicted of the knifepoint robbery of David Lines in his own home in Camborne on October 17 last year. He received a seven year sentence for his involvement in the offence.

Pellow was also convicted of another burglary of an elderly victim in Camborne on December 12 , for which he received a two year sentence to run consecutively. The jury took just ten minutes to decide his guilt.

Detective Sergeant Steve Moorcroft of Camborne CID said: “This was a particularly nasty robbery. Two men in balaclavas broke into Mr Lines' home in the early hours of October 17 and threatened him with violence. He was forced to surrender his bank card and PIN and detained while one of the men withdrew cash from his account.

“The sentencing in our view reflects the severity of this crime, which was further aggravated by the fact that Pellow knew Mr Lines and targeted his vulnerability.

“This was a factor in the other robbery in which Pellow broke into the house of a woman in her 80s, while she was at home, knowing her to be vulnerable. He stole her purse and other belongings.”

Pellow was linked forensically to both crimes, and witnesses gave evidence of his admission to the robbery.

DS Moorcroft added: “We hope this conviction sends a very clear message that if people come forward with information or have witnessed an incident, they will be taken seriously if they contact the police. In this case, use of witness statements along with other evidence has lead to a very satisfying result for the police, the victims and their families.

“Pellow’s accomplice in the knifepoint robbery of Mr Lines is still at large. We are sure someone knows who it is. If anyone has any information as to who he is or how he was involved in the offence we would ask them to come forward and let us know. We will pursue any lead vigorously.”

If anyone has any information that would help to identify the second offender or his whereabouts, they are asked to email Devon and Cornwall Police at 101@DC.Police.uk or call 101, quoting log 118 of October 17, 2015
