Teresa Hale and mum Grace Harrington, both from Camborne, have taken part in Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Moonlight Memory Walk in Falmouth every year since the charity started the event seven years ago and will be two of five ladies leading this year’s walk.

Teresa and Grace took part in the first event in 2009 in memory of Teresa’s gran and Grace’s mum Beryl who died in June of that year. Teresa said: “We lost my gran, mum’s mum, in June 2009 and it just so happened that that September was the very first Moonlight Memory Walk in Falmouth so we just thought that it was the perfect thing to take part in. It was very emotional but now it is just something that we look forward to every year.”

Grace added: “It’s something that we always do together and it’s lovely when you walk through the town because people come out of the pubs and hotels and houses and cheer you on.”

The Moonlight Memory Walk is a five mile sponsored, ladies only walk around the streets of Falmouth at night. This year the event is being held on Saturday, October 1, with the walk starting at 10pm. Ladies are invited to decorate a candle bag in memory of those they are walking for, which are celebrated in the memory ceremony before the walk begins.

Kiley Tellam, events fundraiser for CHSW, said: “Our Moonlight Memory Walk is a very different type of event to others. It is a poignant night for a lot of ladies and everyone is taking part for a special reason. The atmosphere on the evening is so uplifting and everyone joins forces and walks in celebration of their loved ones. It’s a very touching event and one that we are looking forward to welcoming new walkers to as well as those like Teresa and Grace who have taken part every year.”

There is an early bird entry price available until August 31 of just £10 per person so to take advantage of this register now at chsw.org.uk/moonlight.
