Six students from the Experimental School of Beihang University in Beijing, China, enjoyed some of Cornwall’s most iconic attractions recently, having been welcomed to the county by Camborne Science and International Academy.

Accompanied by their teacher, the visit was organised by CSIA as part of their ongoing and revered international programme. “Upon arrival, our Chinese visitors were given a warm welcome by their student hosts from CSIA,” said Paula Tippett, international and student voice. “During their stay, the students took part in a range of academy lessons and visited St Michael’s Mount, Land’s End and Pendennis Castle to name just a few.”

Students also visited the academy’s new Nexus STEM centre, where they joined CSIA students in a specialist lesson. The international visitors were hosted by CSIA student families in Camborne and the local area, to experience what life is like in Cornwall.

“Living with host families offers our visitors the opportunity to have a well-rounded cultural experience, explore our traditions, practice their English language skills and live like a local," said Paula. "It’s so beneficial for all involved."

Principal Ian Kenworthy said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank our families for their time and efforts, and making these exchanges possible. It’s a fantastic journey of cultural exchange, new friendships and fun and our visitors left with lifelong memories and connections.”

CSIA is already looking forward to welcoming their Chinese partners back to Cornwall in the near future. “It’s so valuable to meet students from another nation and culture, and for our students to show-case their school and the success we have here” added Ian. “We are very pleased that they enjoyed the lessons and leisure activities, and we hope that this continues to strengthen CSIA’s many global partnerships.”
