A pedestrian who suffered serious head injuries in a collision on the A30 near Redruth is understood to remain in a critical condition today.
The man was walking along the dual carriageway when he was involved in a collision with a grey Citroen Xara at around 3.30pm yesterday.
He was flown by air ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, where it is understood he remains in a stable but critical condition.
Police closed the road in both directions between the Avers Roundabout and Tolvaddon and it remained shut for around nine hours while a full investigation was carried out, not fully reopening until 9.30pm.
Traffic was diverted through Illogan Highway between Heartlands and Redruth.
This led to massive tailbacks, not only in Redruth town centre but also the surrounding roads and villages as motorists tried to find an alternative way through on the narrow country roads.
Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward to help their enquiries, by emailing 101@dc.police.uk or calling by telephone on 101, quoting log 0421 of 07/10/16.
