A mother and son are the two latest members of staff from 77 (Redruth) Squadron to have been commissioned as Pilot Officers. Chris Yarde-Dent successfully completed an Initial Officer Training Course at RAF Cranwell following in his mother's footsteps. Plt Off Wendy Yarde-Dent joined the Squadron in 2014 when her son Chris joined as a cadet, and went from being a Committee Member to a civilian Instructor and now has the role of the Squadron's Training Officer. Plt Off Chris Yarde-Dent had a very successful cadet career, successfully completing the Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course, the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme, achieving his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and also having the honour of being a Lord Lieutenant's Cadet. The squadron is very fortunate to have such a committed staff and volunteers who help to create a secure environment in which the cadets can explore their potential. Recently having moved into newly refurbished premises at RAF Portreath, the squadron accepts cadets from age 12 (year 8) to 17. Adult staff do not need to have any service experience and can serve as a civilian Instructor or in uniform as an officer or senior non-commissioned officer.
