Redruth battle to be top dog

It may have been a Lions show but it was dogs on display not cats at a Redruth charity event.

Entries were up at this year’s Camborne, Redruth and District Lions Club Companion Dog Show, which was celebrating its thirtieth anniversary.

A change of venue from the Ambulance Hall in Redruth to Redruth Community Centre proved to be a good move, with better parking and more space for the canine competitors.

This year 39 animals battle it out to be top dog – a rise of ten on last year.

Main judge was Donna Brunyee from Bodmin, helped by assistant judge June Trevarthen from Redruth.

Alan Hampton, from the Lions club, said: “Donna and June made the show go with a swing and everybody who attended enjoyed themselves and were happy to join in our various raffles, book sales and buy food from our restaurant.”

This year’s sponsors were Jennings & Jennings, Gilberson & Page of London and judge June Trevarthen, who designed and made the winners’ rosettes. The event raised £315 for Lions-supported charities – more than £150 up on last year’s show.
