A building and design student has scooped the “student of the year” award for her degree course work at a Cornwall College Camborne ceremony.

Chloe Pitt, aged 18 from Penzance, was honoured for her work in the building renovation and design foundation degree.

She received her prize at the annual Building on Success awards held at the college.

The awards were presented by Carl Evans, the centre chair for the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Cornwall.

Chloe was one of several people studying plumbing, furniture studies, trowel and wood occupations and construction who picked up awards on the night.

They were donated by building companies from the area and nationally, including Jewson, Plumbase, SJ Andrew & Sons, Cornish Fixings Co, Building Centre and Axminster Tool Centre.

John Stagg, head of faculty for technology, who opened the event, said: “The students have all worked very hard and do a fantastic job. They are a credit to the college.”

Other award winners included 17-year-old Ben Stevens from Hayle who completed his plumbing certificate level two course in July this year and collected the award for full-time student of the year and the Plumbase Cup.

Ben Pascoe, aged 18 from Helston, who recently won a bronze award at the UK SkillBuild championships held in Scotland, was awarded student of the year for wood occupations level three.
