A drunk driver told police officers: “you’ve got me” after they stopped him in Redruth last month.
Kevin Trethowan, 44, of St Day Road, Redruth, was found to register 51 mcg of alcohol in breath, 16 points over the legal limit.
Trethowan, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court to drink-driving on May 15.
Ron Butler for the Crown Prosecution Service said police officers in Redruth saw Trethowan driving a van towards them. The van suddenly turned away and was driven off at speed as if Trethowan had just seen them. They followed it until it turned down a lane which came to a dead end.
Trethowan told them: “OK, fair enough. I have been drinking. You’ve got me.”
Martin Pearce, for the defendant, said his client had been out for an unplanned drink with friends and had not felt he was over the limit.
When he realised that the police were following him he panicked.
A self employed mechanic in Redruth, Trethowan was banned from driving for three years and fined £160 and £100 costs and surcharge.
The court was told that he had a previous similar conviction in 2006.
