Fatal car crash near Redruth

Police are investigating a fatal road traffic collision near Redruth.

At about 3.30am on Monday, August 27 a two vehicle crash occurred on the west bound carriageway of the A30 just before to the Avers offslip at Redruth.

The incident involved A Toyota Landcruiser which was in collision with a black BMW 316i. Both vehicles were travelling West along the A30 at the time.

The male driver of the BMW, believed to be 20-year-old Mike Flaherty from the Truro area, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyoto vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The weather at the time of the collision was poor, and although not raining the road was wet and the collision site is unlit.

The scene was attended by officers from the serious collisions investigation unit, the extensive scene covering 200 metres and torrential rain all day resulted in the west bound carriageway being closed for almost 12 hours.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them on 101 quoting police reference DCP-20120827-0160.
