Pool students win VIP trip to London

A team of budding stockbrokers from Pool College has enjoyed a VIP trip to London after winning a countywide competition.
The six young traders from year eight enjoyed the trip of a lifetime after beating 15 other schools across Cornwall in a £100,000 virtual stocks and shares competition.
Pupils Jenny Brett-Knowles, Katie Nunn, Lorna-Beth Rice, Chris Groves, Marcus May and Michael Liley, all aged 13, beat the market and returned 11.94 per cent more than the FTSE 100 over six months.
For some of the team, the youngest in the competition, it was their first trip to London and their first time on a plane as they jetted off from Newquay Airport.
Katie said: "I have never been on a plane before but I loved it. At first I was scared of the turbulence but now it is fun.
"After the plane we went to the Bank of England and I tried to lift a real gold bar. It was so heavy and it was worth £173,660."
Lorna-Beth said: "I had never been in the City of London before and thought it was going to be a busy and dangerous place, but when I got there I thought it was amazing with lovely buildings."
Marcus said: "It was brilliant couple of days."
The winning students managed to squeeze all the major sights into their two day stay with a trip to the London Eye and the West End to watch a stage version of Lord of the Rings.
The MP for Falmouth and Camborne, Julia Goldsworthy also gave the students a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament.
A highlight for Jenny was the view from the London Eye.
She said: "You could see for yonks - Wembley Stadium, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, London Bridge and the River Thames below us."
Peter McGahan, from competition organiser Worldwide Financial Planning, said: "I am so pleased they had a great trip. I think it was just rewards for all their hard work over the last six months."
