Police have declared a house fire in Redruth early this morning was "suspicious."

Fire crews from Camborne and Redruth were called to the house in Chywoon Gardens at around 4.30am.

An 18-year-old woman was asleep in the house and had woken to discover that the front door was on fire.

She managed to leave the house via the back door and was not injured.

When fire fighters arrived the house was well ablaze. The fire damaged the porch, hallway and the upstairs floorboards.

Crews used wore breathing apparatus while putting out the fire with a hose reel and jet, before using a high pressure fan.

Police officers are now investigating the blaze, as arson is suspected to be the cause of the fire.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 08452 777444 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111, quoting log number 100/09/05/08.
