Primary school children enjoyed an afternoon of sporting activities organised by pupils at Pool Business and Enterprise College.

The TOP Link Festival was held at the college as part of the sports leadership initiative that a group of students are involved in.

The initiative helps youngsters between the ages of 14 and 16 years old develop their leadership skills by organising and coaching sporting events for primary schools in their area.

This year's festival was run by year ten pupils from Pool who have all recently completed the level one Sports Leader Award.

Julian Hosking, school sports co-ordinator, said following the event: "All the leaders selected for this event are an absolute credit to the school based on their performance today. Their commitment to making the afternoon run smoothly was admirable, and watching the way individual characters shone through as they enthusiastically delivered their coaching was fantastic."

He added that all the primary children had great fun taking part in the Featbeat dances, Indo Boarding and multi-skills stations available.

As Pool is part of the Penryn School Sports Partnership (SSP), this event is one of many throughout the year.

In recent weeks leaders have also run a Multi-Skills Festival for key stage one primary children and umpired the SSP Primary Netball Finals.

All year pupils at Pool have the opportunity to gain the level one Sports Leadership Award. This year 48 pupils completed the qualification, which is nationally recognised as the first step into sports coaching.
