Family and friends of Helston schoolboy Josh Mills were getting into the fundraising groove on Saturday at a 60s and 70s themed event.

The party night at the Godolphin Club hoped to boost the total of the Footprints campaign, which has been set up by the Packet to support seven-year-old Josh who has cerebral palsy affecting all four limbs, leaving him unable to stand or walk unaided.

The St Michael’s Primary School pupil has been accepted for a £27,000 operation at Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital that will remove the tight muscle tone preventing him from walking properly, but he will have to start building the muscle from scratch.

To help him do this Josh must attended physiotherapy sessions three times a week, costing £60 – a total of around £7,000 – and the Footprints campaign is aimed at raising these funds.

Helston Rotary Club had already organised the 60s and 70s night at the Godolphin Club, which featured performances from live band Point Blank and Alvin Sawdust.

Those attending took the opportunity to don themed fancy dress and danced the night away.

Josh’s mum Jo Mills said that despite numbers being slightly lower than hoped, thought to be due to the amount of Christmas events taking place at this time of year, the event raised £350.

“It was a really good evening,” she said.

Jo thanked everyone for their support, in particular the band Point Blank and Brian Curtis from Helston Rotary who did a large amount of the organisation.

“Thank you everyone for their support still and generosity,” she added.

A fundraising bank account has been set up in Josh’s name, called the Josh Mills Fundraising Account. Use account number is 54918421 and sort code 53-50-37 for donations.
