Falmouth was a sea of white beards and Father Christmas costumes on Saturday as the Cornwall Hospice Care’s annual Santa Fun Run came to town.
Almost 700 jolly Santas of all ages, shapes and sizes, gathered on The Moor to warm up in the chilly weather, before setting off for the run.
Some even pushed children dressed as Santa in buggies, while some brought their four legged friends.
After a welcome from Falmouth’s mayor, Geoffrey Evans, the sea of Santas took part in a warm-up session, thanks to fitness fanatics from local gym The Core, with the crowd dancing to music, as well as doing the “Mobot” and the Usain “Bolt”.
Falmouth Marine Band had the honour of firing the starting cannon, after making a spectacular entrance dressed all in red.
Teams that entered the fun run included businesses, community groups and sports teams, including Ignition Credit, The Mermaid Centre, Falmouth University Students Union, Devoran Pilot Gig Club and Meneage Street Surgery.
“We are thrilled with the turn out’’ said Rose Wiltshire, from Cornwall Hospice Care “We would like to thank everyone who took part or |volunteered as well as the people who stopped to cheer our Santas through the town”
Traders and businesses in Falmouth embraced the festive Spirit and took part in ‘Super Santa Day’ organising their own Santa themed activities in their premises while raising money for Cornwall Hospice Care.
The Santa Fun Run is expected to raise £15,000 for Cornwall Hospice Care and is the largest of three Santa Fun Runs organised by the charity.
The first across the line was young Finbar O’Conaill a King Charles Primary pupils, swiftly followed by Henry George.
