Residents, organisations and businesses are being given an extra 14 weeks to comment on plans to create a Special Protection Area which would stretch from Falmouth Bay to St Austell Bay.
Natural England is proposing the designation in order to protect three species of bird, the great northern diver, black-throated diver and Slavnian grebe, which spend the winters within the proposed site.
The public consultation had been due to end last week, but Natural England has announced it is to be extended by 14 weeks and people now have until July 21 to make their thoughts known.
Heather Duncan from Natural England, said: “We are responding to feedback from stakeholders that it would be helpful to make the 2013 vulnerability assessment, which informed the impact assessment for the site, available to everyone to help inform contributions to the current consultation.
“The vulnerability assessment identifies whether the pSPA bird species are at risk from activities currently taking place on the site. As a result of interest in the impact assessment for the pSPA, we recognise that making the vulnerability assessment more widely available will help all stakeholders and sea-users comment on the information in the impact assessment.”
