A gas leak forced the closure of the main road into Helston town centre last Friday.
The top of Meneage Street was closed off from the Spar roundabout to the junction with Grange Road, after the leak was reported just inside the entrance to Prospect Place.
It is understood a woman inadvertently drove her car into the gas main, damaging the top and causing it to start leaking gas.
Residents in the immediate vicinity had to be evacuated from their homes as a precaution.
Helston firefighters were on the scene making the area safe and keeping members of the public away until a team from Wales and West Utilities could arrive to repair the damaged equipment.
Police were also called, monitoring the road closure and providing back up.
The scene attracted a crowd of people, many of them residents from neighbouring properties.
