Police are appealing for witnesses after a crash near St Austell resulted in two men sustaining serious leg injuries.

Emergency services were called shortly after 11.15pm on Friday, July 18 after two cars rolled following a collision on the A3058, Gwindra Road in St Stephen.

A blue Citroen Saxo, driven by an 18-year-old man, was heading in the direction of St Austell and a blue Rover 216, driven by a 23-year-old man, was travelling in the opposite direction.

Both drivers, from the St Stephen area, suffered serious leg injuries and were taken by ambulance to Treliske Hospital in Truro, along with three other causalities.

The female front seat passengers sustained minor injuries.

The male rear seat passenger of the Citroen and the two-year-old child travelling in the back of the Rover were uninjured.

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit attended the scene.

The road was closed for ten hours while a forensic investigation took place. The cars were recovered and the road was cleared of debris.

An 18-year-old man from St Austell and a 17-year-old man from Ivybridge, travelling in a third car, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision.

They were taken to Newquay police station and later released on police bail until 31 October pending further enquiries.
