A new Liberal Democrat branch for the Falmouth and Penryn area has been launched following a meeting in Penryn's Temperance Hall.

Local activist Jeff Muir was unanimously elected as the branch's first chair and will be working with local councillors Oliver Cramp and Maureen Davies from Falmouth and Cait Hutchings and Beverley Hulme from Penryn.

Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Simon Rix addressed the meeting talking about the need to campaign for fairer funding for Cornwall.

He welcomed the new branch as a positive step forward for local people in Falmouth and Penryn.

Simon said: “Both Falmouth and Penryn have a proud history of Liberal Democracy and I was absolutely delighted to see the new branch formally adopted.

Jeff Muir, the new branch chair added: “I was deeply honoured to be elected chair by such a distinguished panel of hardworking local councillors. As a new branch we are planning to knock on an awful lot of doors over the coming months and years as it is only through talking to people that you can properly understand their concerns.”
