With a wartime theme, Mabe Youth and Community Project’s autumn fayre included a commemoration of the part the village played in Britain’s war effort.

As the country pays homage to all those who fought during World War I, the event in Mabe featured a wartime memorabilia stand which included items such as old records and gramophones which had been loaned by people from within the village.

The event, held at the Mabe Community Centre and its grounds, was well attended by people of all ages and offered a variety of crafts stalls along with a raffle, tombola, children’s face painting, a barbecue and refreshments. There was also a performance from Stithians Junior Band.

Children who went along were also invited to take part in a poster competition as well as a wartime themed fancy dress competition.

Barbara Hewitt Silk, a member of the Mabe Youth and Community Group, said: “It was a really good village event that everyone enjoyed.”

The fayre raised £873 which will go towards the community centre and the children’s play park.
