Falmouth Primary Academy has re-opened, after a £3m project to refurbish the entire school was completed on time for the start of the new academic year.

The project involved a brand new roof, energy efficient heating and lighting and redecoration throughout.

Temporary classrooms were erected so that a refurbishment of the entire school could be completed with minimum disruption to the learning of the children.

The school remained open throughout the programme of works and pupils were able to ‘get involved’ in the refurbishment of their school through workshops and an assembly organised by Interserve, the construction and support services group that carried out the work

The construction and design team along with their suppliers and subcontractors also organised an employment and skills exhibition at the school so pupils could gain an understanding of the different types of careers available to them within the construction industry.

At an official launch event held on Friday, September 26, at the school, the pupils blew bubbles to celebrate and children cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the refurbished school.

Head teacher Claire Smith, said: “I am absolutely delighted with our refurbished school which was completed without any closures and the school was able to function as normal throughout the project. I am really looking forward to continue to provide our pupils with an outstanding learning experience in our newly refurbished school.

Nicola Lloyd, operation manager of Interserve Construction, said: “We love being involved in school projects, with our locally-based team, we all have a stake in our community, and it’s great that we can see how our work has contributed to making Falmouth Primary Academy an asset to benefit children and staff in this area for generations to come.”
