Falmouth Coastguard has issued a reminder to the public to be aware of the tides after checking on individuals who were potentially cut off in the upper reaches of the River Fal at the weekend.

At around 2pm on Saturday the Coastguard Rescue Team |was contacted due to concern |for the welfare of a person who had not been seen since the previous evening, which was believed to be out of character, and was sent to check their boat near Malpas.

A Coastguard spokesperson told the Packet: “Due to it being low tide three technicians donned dry suits and prepared mud rescue equipment to get |out to the persons boat that |was just above the low tide |line, while other members managed to gain access to |the foreshore and small punt |to allow access around the channel.

“Once ready the team deployed onto the river, having managed to get close alongside the other boat was able to establish the occupant was safe and well and appreciated the concern.”

While on scene the team |also monitored another |small boat that appeared to |have got stuck on the mud, but they were able to recover themselves.

The spokesperson added: “Please be aware of the tides.”
