Volunteers are being sought to help with this year’s Poppy Appeal collections in both Falmouth and Penryn.

The 2015 Poppy Appeal officially launches on Saturday when collectors will take to the streets of Falmouth’s town centre and be on duty in the foyer of Sainsbury’s at Ponsharden and at Asda in Penryn.

In Falmouth, the volunteers will again include students and staff from the Camborne School of Mines and Renewable Energy from the Penryn campus. It will be the fifth year that they have supported the Poppy Appeal by helping out with collections. In addition, many shops and businesses will have poppy boxes on their counters.

But Falmouth’s Poppy Appeal organiser, Fiona Ferguson, is desperate for more volunteers to help by having collecting boxes. “I am happy for them to give whatever amount of time they can. I will take whatever I can get,” she said.

“Last year we raised £13,203.29 in Falmouth and we’d like to do better than that this year. If anybody can help and would like to have a chat, they can call me for more information.”

Fiona can be contacted on 07813 004303 or by emailing Fiona_ferguson@hotmail.co.uk.

The situation is similar in Penryn where Royal British Legion stalwart Chaz Wenmouth is hoping to attract volunteers who can spare a couple of hours or more to collect at Asda.

Anyone who can offer help should call 373087, or pass their details on to the Penryn Town Council office.
