Half-term got off to a spooky start for children in St Keverne when a Hallowe’en themed disco was held.

Organised by the Friends of St Keverne School committee (FoSKS), it was held in the parish hall last Friday.

Youngsters dressed for the occasion in their scariest outfits, leading to a range of witches, pumpkins, ghosts and zombies.

Ben the DJ from Proper Job Mobile Disco had the difficult job of choosing the winners of the costume competition, but eventually he decided that the six and under first places should go to Brooke McKay and Freddie White, with the seven and over girl and boy titles going to Naomi Hunt and Michael Saleem.

Packet photographer Allan McLaren was asked to judge the carved pumpkin competition, for which there was a high standard.

He placed Tom Rainbow first in the five and under category, with Maisie Lambrick as highly commended, with Kane Milburn first in the six and over, and Kitty highly commended.

More than 65 children joined the event, at which they could enjoy dancing and refreshments, in the form of pasties or sausage rolls, as well as an endless supply of cake and squash.

There was a “mucky lucky dip” where treats could be won by finding an eyeball in the slime, as well as a sweet shop and Hallowe’en hamper raffle.

Sarah Lambrick, from the organising group, said: “FoSKS would like to thank everyone for making such an effort with their costumes and for coming along to support the event.”

The disco raised almost £200 for FoSKS and the money will be used to improve the facilities and equipment at the school.
