EXPERTS were stunned after a pregnant lobster lobster which had lost four legs and both claws regrew them again in record time.

The miracle crustacean dubbed Clawdia shocked staff at the National Lobster hatchery at Padstow by her amazing powers of regeneration.

She had been handed in laden with eggs after being caught by a fisherman but minus four legs and both claws.

Despite that she grew back all missing limbs after a month in just one molt - the process of shedding the hardened outer shell and growing a new one.

A spokesman for the hatchery said: "In the spirit of Christmas we have our very own Christmas miracle.

"Little lobster mum Clawdia came into our hatchery in a bit of a bad way...with only four legs and no claws.

"She bravely hatched her babies in our maternity ward which will be released along with many others back into our waters, to help keep our local lobster stocks healthy.

"But the really wonderful news is, this morning we discovered she had molted and low and behold....there appeared not only all legs but also two perfect little claws.

"Nature is incredible."

Carly Daniels a scientist at the facility added: "We've never seen anything quite like this.

"It's very unusual.

"She may have lost the limbs fighting or from a predator attack.

"But to regrow them all so fast is amazing."

She added Clawdia would eventually be released back into the wild after her new shell had hardened.
